Crocodile’s first lie.

ORIGINS: In the eyes of the fifth character in the original series we saw a crocodile with a schoolbag on its back (times two). Crocodiles cry, they lie, but they have to start somewhere, and we wondered about their first lies.

No, I am not being mean. I am being honest. I still don’t know what love is, and I have been saying I love you since I was a child, long before I knew the meaning of most words. How could it have been anything other than a lie? I learned that the correct response to an I love you was a No, I love you more. That’s it. And when I asked for more, I was told that love was something I was supposed to do with all my heart. But I didn’t know how to tell if that was what I was doing. I couldn’t rip my heart out of my chest to take a look, and counting my heartbeats proved to be just a waste of time.

I am a lovable child. I have big eyes, and I learned soon enough that I could cry on demand. I am sorry is the easiest lie I have ever told. It works like magic. And all I can say is that I will miss being a child.

Isn’t it nice knowing that no one really cares? They ask How are you? But don’t expect you to answer with the truth. I would feel bad if I answered a truth with a lie, but since both the question and the answer are lies, I can just smile, and go on with my life.

Have you ever heard the words How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child? Well, I am a crocodile and, similarities aside, at least I know how to lie. Thank you was one of the first things I learned to say.
